How to Clean Brass Jewelry and the Qualities of This Metal Alloy
Share
Maybe you didn't know that brass ...
- you can work using classic goldsmith techniques;
- 60-90% of what circulates in the European Union is recycled: its quality does not degrade during the process;
- it is a metal alloy of copper and zinc; if purchased from controlled suppliers in Europe, it does not contain cadmium or nickel;
- it oxidizes faster than 925 silver, but can be cleaned very easily;
- it is highly resistant to chemical corrosion and wear.
The amulet jewelry you find here on the site is made of unplated brass and can be easily cleaned to make it look like new again and again: surface tarnish can be removed by rubbing the jewelry with a microfiber cloth and a drop of brass polishing cream available at the supermarket (e.g., Sidol), or with natural methods (soaking in hot vinegar and salt).
