Italic Woman and Serpent

The Snake Woman represents adulthood: the moment of full vital energy, of confronting one's own power and what within us can wound or heal.

This amulet refers in particular to the Marsi, an ancient population settled around Lake Fucino, known in the ancient world for their ritual relationship with snakes and for the cult of the goddess Angitia, a figure associated with healing, herbs, and knowledge of poisons.

A transformed trace of this cult still survives today in the Festival of the Snake Charmers of Cocullo, where the snake continues to be a symbol of the relationship between human, fear, and the sacred.

The emerald accompanies this figure as a stone of regeneration and inner vision. Together, the snake and emerald tell of change, the necessary shedding to grow, but also the responsibility of learning to manage the primordial energy that lives within each of us.

The "venom" of the snake here becomes a metaphor for raw, instinctive energy, often accumulated in the unconscious: something that can destroy, if ignored, or transform into medicine, for oneself and for others, when recognized and integrated.
